    It’s actually really easy. One of the best ways is sticking your finger in it to your knuckle. You will probably feel is there is a need of moisture. And again – this one varies for each and every plant.

Other significant signs for too much moisture are discolored leaves, lack of growth, loss of leaves, and soft rotten patches.

If you notice any kinds of slow leaf growth, yellow or brown and dried leaf edges that means that there is some dehydration.

  1. The temperature of the water.
    It is an essential, as you probably guess. Use water at room temperature, which is about 20° C. That is the best temperature you could use for the well-being of your home plants.

  • Too hot water can damage the roots and therefore the whole plant;
  • If it is too cold it could cause dormancy in the plant.

  1. Special tools for metering the hydration.
    You could use special devices as moisture meters for a more precise data of the level of moisture in the soil. You could find it in every good gardening store of course.

  1. Special pots for home plants.
    They are another great way for you to ensure that you will not overwater the plant or leave the soil too dry. The best way is to choose pots with good drainage. That means that the pot will have few holes in the bottom. There are also better materials for these occasions – metal, plastic or glass. They better because they do not absorb water like ceramic or clay pots do.

  1. Light

    You forgot about this one, didn’t you? Light is an essential! And this way it is one of the main necessary things needed for the growth of the plants. Select an area which could provide good quantity of natural light. But remember – each and every kind of plant requires different amount of light.

Sometimes it is better to not place the home plants in direct sunlight. An alternative to the natural light is the fluorescent, but not for all plants of course.
