A Quite home- a happy home
No matter if you are from the “quite ones”or you like some hints of extra sound in the dwelling, there will be time when you prefer something more than just quietness. For working-at-home purposes, for having-a-nap purposes or just to be sure that nobody is going to interact your home space area or distract your baby’s sleeping for example. There are some of the reasons which lead to the idea of sound-proofing a home. Having in mind that the ways of doing this can be quite expensive we thought of some ideas how to insulate your home without spending too much money on this one.
The obvious stuff
If you want something to be done you have to invest in it. Money, time, efforts, no matter what the struggles there is always something that has to be done in order to improve your way of life and work.
For improving your peace-and-calm part of the dwelling you should think properly and wisely. As a start why not think about walls. Contemporary building stakes primary on visualization and outlook rather than pragmatism and practical values. For example walls, dividing the rooms sometimes just divide them visually, but does not restrict unwanted sounds and noises. And since you have got a great deal of walls in the dwelling probably the easiest and cheapest way to limit the vibrations and sounds if to build a full-wall bookshelf. This way no matter what kind of noisy things are going on the other side, heavy and dense books will demolish a lot of the vibrations and sounds and increase the feeling of calmness.
An extra wall
Additions like building or adjusting an extra wall do great job. They could be rather expensive, but it all depends on the effect you are pursuing. If the space is yours permanently, consider adding a second layer of sheet-rock or drywall over the existing wall in a noisy room. This way you will give the sound waves a good block and another layer to pass through, and there will be a little less energetic sounds when they come out the other side.
Soft means quite
Yes, indeed soft actually means peace and quiet. Upholstered furniture and soft items will not “radiate” as much noise as hard and solid things in your flat or house. In doesn’t necessarily matter where the soft things are. Simply adjust them around, so the noise-making adds extra material to deaden sound waves. Remember- homes are a lot noisier on the day when they are empty, just when you have first moved in. So filled with furniture, beds, and blankets, it’s a less echo-y space and sound probably travels less from room to room. It’s a fact.
Think of soft and heavy, so they will not only keep the unwanted light during the day, but also they will “kill” the additional sounds which will distract you from your leisure or working hours.
Pillows
Just like the heavy and soft drapes they could be a great sound collectors. They are soft as well, you can use them traditionally, and this way you do not only improve the interior’s outlook, but also will make noises duller.
The floor
Most of the noise in a dwelling comes from the activities which people do in it. Of course there are some electrical devices like the fridge, heating systems and air conditioners which create additional sounds, but people are the main source of noise in a dwelling, even just by walking around.
So think about sound-improving the flooring. If it is made of inlaid wooden planks or parquet, unfortunately there will come a time when it will start to creaks a bit. So the first thing you could do is try to isolate those creaks, by the help of a specialist in the flooring- he will know what to do, do not worry. The other thing to isolate the sounds from the heavy steps is very simple. Just buy yourself a rug or a very good soft carpet. They come in variety of designs and materials, they can be easily cleaned and maintained and they also create a distinctive feeling of comfort, which every home can benefit from. So concerning sound-proofing rugs- the thicker the better!
Double effect
When deciding to use a rug, there is something more that you can do. When investing in a rug, think of an additional pad to put under your new floor covering. This will improve a lot more your new sound- proofing system.
So no matter what you have decided to use as a sound-limiting procedure you should know that the ways are not that restricting. And as we said there are always different kinds for this, depending on how much money, time of efforts you are willing to spend on this idea.
